Obituary

Obituary for Joyce Bernice Gallant

Mrs. Bernice Joyce Gallant lovingly known as “Joyce” went home to be with God Friday, 30 August, 2019, after fighting a good fight of faith against leukemia. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, Christmas Eve, 1932.
She was a soprano with the United Negro College Fund choir, the Berkshire Choral International, and she studied at the Julliard School of Music. She was a yoga instructor, piano and guitar player. Mom loved singing to God at her church; “O Mio Babbino Caro” was her favorite. Joyce became a vegan in 1971. She loved completing crossword puzzles from her niece, Angie, with a pen, no less! After retiring from NYPD as a payroll accountant and reporter for Spring 31 magazine, Joyce went to Charleston, SC with her husband where she worked as a payroll accountant for the Charleston County EMS.
Ms. Gallant is predeceased by her husband, Mr. Joseph Gallant, 11 February 2008, and daughter, Joyce R. Gallant, 16 October, 2018. Her legacy is carried on by her brother, Henry Legrand; children, Julia, Jeffrey, Joel, and Jill; her eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and a bunch of loving cousins.
Joyce was also known as Mom, Auntie, MeMe, Grandma, and Grand MaMa. A second viewing will be at Palmetto Funeral Home in Charleston, SC before being buried with her husband at Beauford National Cemetery.
