Obituary for Barry F. Bartels

Barry Francis Bartels, beloved husband, loving father, and grandfather, 72, died Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at his home in Glen Burnie, Maryland with his family by his side.

Barry was a former employee of Gavigan's Furniture, NSA, and Crown Tool & Circuits Co. An avid Civil War buff, he enjoyed reading about and visiting Gettysburg and Antietam Battlefields. He also enjoyed spending time with those he loved, especially his cat(s), and making people laugh. He was a former member of both Middle River and Gamber Volunteer Fire Departments.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George William and Mary Francis (Ebaugh) Bartels, and his grandson, John Eric Bartels, Jr. He leaves behind his wife, Thi Thu Dieu, two sons, and daughter-in-laws Barry “Rick” and Carrie Bartels of Glen Burnie, and John Eric “Jay” and Alisha Bartels of Gamber, best friend David (Karen) Gavigan of Glen Burnie - who was also like a son, his three step-children Kieu Thi Nguyen, Tram Thi Nguyen, and Phong Hoai Nguyen, of Vietnam. His grandchildren Kera Jefcoat, Kaitlyn Crabtree, Tyler Bartels, Annabella Bartels, Olivia Bartels, Hao Gia Tran, Dieu Thien Huyen Tran, Nhu Quynh Le, Thu Anh Le, and Bao Nguyen. Great grandchildren; Layton and Parker Jefcoat, and Karaline, Alison and Blake Crabtree. He also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, George Frederick “Fred” and Geraldine Bartels of Elizabethtown, PA.

He is loved dearly and will be missed by his family and friends.
